Think of it. Twelve thousand PRIVATE acres in a lush valley dramatically sheltered by the towering Continental Divide and Buffalo Ridge harboring a large resident elk herd year ‘round. If that’s not enough, add another nearby four thousand acre private ranch (also owned and managed by Buffalo Creek). With elevations from 8,000 ft to 10,500 ft, there is quite a varied terrain. Joining the WILD, FREE-ROAMING elk that tend to stay on ranch year 'round (we are NOT a wildlife fenced hunt) are migrating herds heading to their winter feeding grounds from Arapaho National Forest, Routt National Forest and BLM land providing an equation that equals to more elk funneling into our private valley than our maximum of four to six hunters could ever hope for. While we manage for the biggest and best animals possible and have an average year-in/year-out 95% success rate in harvesting mature bulls and bucks, (2009 hunt photos and stories) we believe the reason we all hunt is for the experience, and the “Buffalo Creek Experience” is surpassed by few. As all our guests quickly learn, your every need is met. From the field to the freezer; we have you covered. Accommodations are provided for in our luxurious six bedroom lodge complete with all amenities. Meals are hearty and delicious. Despite the rigors of hunting in the West, most of our guests “complain” they gain weight during their stay. Hunts are fully guided by seasoned pros who have years of big game hunting experience. Unlike many outfits, our guides live on the ranch year ’round and grew up hunting in Colorado. They know the land you’re hunting and the animals you’ll pursue. Most importantly, they truly delight in sharing their expertise with you. Our top three guides combined have 75 years elk hunting experience, the eldest being 46 years old (these guys have a bit of elk blood coursing through their veins.) Add up all those elements and you have the best big game hunting in Colorado. A variety of hunting methods are utilized. From spot and stalk to sitting in a comfortable, heated blind, we are able to custom tailor a hunt to match a variety of hunting preferences and physical capabilities. All hunts are conducted by accessing areas in vehicles and hunting on foot. Long horseback rides into “elk country” aren’t necessary here, elk country lies right out the lodge door! We believe part of the hunting experience includes having excellent table fare from the game you harvest. We’ve gone the extra mile to ensure this by constructing our own meat processing facility where our professional butcher will process your game according to your specifications. You’ll head home with your meat packaged and frozen. We focus our attention at providing high quality rifle hunts for elk, mule deer, and moose. To maintain this vision, we do not offer archery or muzzleloader hunts which could interfere with our resident herds during the critical rut and we take no more than 24 hunters per year. Rifle hunters will delight with this management practice as there is abundant wildlife, few hunters, and, often, bulls still bugling during our hunts. Luxurious accommodations, delicious meals, abundant game, trophy-class animals, an attentive staff, expert guides, on-site game processing, and an extraordinarily high success rate ensure a great hunting experience; a Buffalo Creek Ranch Experience.

At Buffalo Creek Ranch our rifle hunting packages include hunting private land, lodging, meals, guiding, transportation around the ranch, and meat processing. Guests are responsible for their licenses and any taxidermy work. Elk licenses are available “over-the-counter” for 2 of the 4 Colorado elk seasons and are by “draw-only” for the other 2. Mule deer licenses are by drawing only. Pre-planning of your hunting adventure is imperative to ensure licenses and hunt availability. We commonly book hunts more than a year in advance as our return rate of clients is high.
Start planning for your 2010 hunt by applying for hunting preference points at the Colorado Division of Wildlife website: http://wildlife.state.co.us/. ARCHERY & MUZZLELOADER HUNTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE You're shopping. Your elk hunt and who you do it with is a tough decision. Make sure you visit our elk photos and stories links. This is the best indication of what you can expect at our ranch. We've averaged better than 95% kill -- we tell all the stories, even the ones that we missed, but we don't believe it's the "kill" that makes a hunt.
